Ryoji Ikeda “Spectra” (2014)

Director and Editor
9’ Short Documentary

Unannounced, spectra appeared in the sky over London at dusk Monday 4 August and for seven nights only it was visible across the city between sunset and sunrise. People could walk within the grid of lights, experiencing a specially composed soundtrack by Ikeda.

Ryoji Ikeda's spectra could be seen for miles around and was videoed and photographed by people all over London. Each day at dusk, it disappeared from view, on Monday 11th August fading for the last time. Artangel then asked Londoners to contribute their footage, captured however hurriedly and on whatever device they had to hand, to a project retelling the story of spectra from myriad points of view. This film, edited together by Sam Blair, is the result of these contributions.
